This is a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation, not sure which really came first but both drove home the lesson learned so I just share it:
There is this philosophical model that any concept is both itself and its counterpart, basically when you define "red", you automatically also define "not red", so the two are in effect the same concept.
In kink, as I explored more with my switch nature - taking on the dominant role to be precise - I discovered that I can appreciate and exploit my submissive state way better, now that I have experienced the dominant one. It works the same other way around, too. Experiencing how a dynamic feels from the sub side is what enables me to dominate.
It is this reconciliation of opposites that changed my world view, and a lesson I never fully absorbed until then: Whenever you find a conflict, there is something to be learned and for everyone involved to grow. Or: Seek out those who think differently, and expand your horizon.
