The cage experience

To make things clear: I mean the ones locked around an entire person.
So I am not entirely sure where this goes. This is a bit of DIY, a bit of advice seeking, looking for discussion, and just a teeny little bit of unloding.
I originally planned on making a blog post where I show off the finished design, but instead I opted to let you in on this journey as it is going.

Bondage is a huge kink of mine, in many different forms. One that I have never experienced though actual cages. For some time I have been wondering how it would be to play with them and in the spirit of DIY, finally decided to make one myself.
One? Well not exactly. I have not yet succeeded in completing one, which leaves me a little infuriated with myself. Tried welding one (made from a number of panels that ought to screw together), but my manufacturing skills were not up to the task. The next one, which I am currently working on, is made from pipes and fittings. Mighty sturdy frame, but the walls are still open. Instead of more expensive pipes and fittings, I tried to put in wire fences. They are not strong enough, from inside I could put my full force against them and just break it apart. A strange sensation - combination of pride in my own strength, and disappointment in my design.

So while I am sulking about this setback and evaluating my options, let's discuss!

I have been in a cage. It started as a joke thing between me and a Dom but than I found I actually kind of enjoyed being in it when I just wanted to be alone. We used a wire dog cage you can get at Walmart and put fairy lights and blankets in it.

• • What sort of interaction do you like while you/your partner are in the cage?

I like it to just be a relaxing place. We lived in kind of a run down shitty place with no real privacy so to me it became almost like a bed room.

• How do you compare cages to other forms of bondage, more restrictive ones like chains, handcuffs, rope?

I feel like a cage is nothing like those at least from how we used it. I would never really compare it to bondage in any form at least in my experiences.

• Any ideas on how to make the walls cheaply and sturdily?

We just bought ours and put it in a corner so it was pretty sturdy.

• Have you ever used a cage alone?

Yes I actually found I liked it so much I do keep one in my closet for when I'm feeling a little anxious or just tired and really want to feel secluded.

• How did you set it up? How long were you inside?

Blankets, stuffed animals and fairy lights. The longest I have been in one is over night.

• What did you do in there all alone?

Just relax. Some times read. Watch Netflix/you tube. Maybe do some journaling and self reflecting.

Idk much about using them from a actual bondage stand point but they can be nice to be in. Good luck!

Interesting new perspective. I never thought of cages as a place of comfort / seclusion. I do have that with my bunk bed already
For me it is more about confinement, being put on display. With a splash of industrial dehumanization.
Do you lock your cage when you're in it by yourself, how do you release yourself / get released then?

I have not locked my self in it my Dom at the time did occasionally lock me in it just using a pad on the latch but if someone wanted to lock them selves in it you could just put a pad lock on the bars.

I have been put into a dog cage by Miss Butterfly. I don't remember how long I was in there. Maybe an hour or two? It was barely large enough to lie down in in the fetal position. Despite lots of blankets on the floor and me being fully clothes it was very uncomfortable.

I did like the fact that I was caged though and I think one day I should be forced to spend the night -- if it can be a little more comfortable.

That being said I enjoy other forms of bondage a lot more: hogtie, spread eagle and mummification in particular. The main draw of bondage for me is restricting me and my movement. A cage is too 'free'. I want to feel the bondage.

Despite lots of blankets on the floor and me being fully clothes it was very uncomfortable.

Uncomfortable how? Did you still feel the bars beneath you (assuming there were any) or was it just the position you were in?
I will certainly take this into account when trying more cage designs, I can change its shape drastically so things like standing cages or ones you fit in only when lying straight is a possibility.
Going the other way around: Also one where you can neither stand up straight nor sit down. Brutal!

cage is too 'free'. I want to feel the bondage.

That is what I am excited about to find out. I sense it is going to be similar to me, but perhaps I am unearthing a different form of bondage for me.

In the meantime I did try a different make of wire fence, this time it was woven and not welded. I find that when sitting inside I want to, need to test the cage. I am never satisfied that I am stuck, I need to feel the inevitability, the futility of resistance
And as it has it, this new fence was not strong enough either, although it withstood my pressing against it better than the welded one, I was able to rip it apart with moderate effort. Closer but not quite there yet.
Now I ordered a lot of 2mm steel wire which I am going to use for a custom net, or rather I will weave the sides of the cage with it.

I fell behind on my updates, but something happened in the meantime!
I decided to scrap the idea of making walls out of cheap fences and instead got myself a spool of 2mm steel cable. Wrapped it around the cages numerous times, pulling it tight and weaving to make it even tighter, same for the floor.
There are just straight lines in each side but they have been tightened so well I cannot pull them apart far enough to fit through - success!
I got so caught up in wrapping the cage that I forgot I need an entrance - didn't want to tear it down so the top became it instead - a lid! Installed a hinged lid made from the same steel pipe material as the rest of the cage and with that also solved the locking part: Handcuffs. They fit nicely around those pipes and even when done stupidly will not let it open nearly far enough for me to fit through.
Finally put in some wooden boards and a blanket (No way I am sitting on thin steel cable for a first test!) and went inside.

It was phenomenal!

I gave a quick rattle to everything, and once I was convinced it wouldn't budge I closed the handcuffs and with that locked myself inside. The moment that happened I immediately understood that this was now my world, not even a cubic meter worth of space, me sitting there in the cage, and the outside world started to fade out of existence. True, there were the keys, and two types of bolt cutters, and wrenches in reach so I could free myself one way or another but for the moment that was put far enough to the back of my mind that I could genuinely enjoy the experience.
I had no idea how I would react (except some VR experiments that got me interested in the first place) - would I panic? Would I try to struggle and break free? Would I become docile and experience the rush? It was the latter, a kind of sub space that extends to not just me but the entire interior volume of my cage - my world!

I am going to repeat this more, and see to it that the walls become a little less bitey (steel cable does tend to latch on to any hair on any body part!), perhaps even sleep inside.
For the time being I am content with how this goes, but in the future I must find someone to control release for me.
