I see KIK is still extremely popular as a messenger app and I wonder why.

What makes this app so appealing? Is is specific for kink or is that just what it is mostly used for? What does it do better than other messenger apps? What is needed to sign-up? What are the negatives?

And what is the actual rate of success on messenger threads? Do you often get messaged?

I have bean toying with the idea of joining some messenger thread as I do like to send and receive naughty pics, but first I want to know more about it. I already have several messenger apps: whatsapp, telegram, discord... that I don't really want to add yet another one.

Kik is mostly used because you don't need a phone number to sign up. You can just make an account (or as many as you want) and they do not link to anything else connected to you. This makes it great for anonymity. However, the app is garbage. Regularly doesn't send messages, prevents sending certain links, sometimes it tells you that you received a message that is nowhere to be found until you restart the app etc.
It just makes it simple to message someone a task, let them do it and prove it with a pic or quick video (longer than 60s regularly doesn't send).

Telegram is technically superior, but because it is linked to your phone number it is difficult to have multiple accounts (if you already use it for non-kink purposes that you do not want linked to your kink life) and the privacy settings have screwed me over before. When I made my account, I very quickly got a message from a family member going "oh you're on telegram now!" because people that have your phone number saved can find you, unless you disable it (hidden in the settings). Now that I have it set up, I prefer it.

My feelings about Kik are somewhat similar to Aurario.
It’s easy enough to use, there’s a good number of kinky people already there. Most importantly, I’m not going to confuse it with work or family&friends messages and group chats.

Messenger threads can be hit or miss. I'm regularly on a few of them. Some times you get a lot of activity and sometimes not. That is part of the thrill though, you never know what's going to happen. Although, I will say when you get nothing it is a bummer.
