I see KIK is still extremely popular as a messenger app and I wonder why.

What makes this app so appealing? Is is specific for kink or is that just what it is mostly used for? What does it do better than other messenger apps? What is needed to sign-up? What are the negatives?

And what is the actual rate of success on messenger threads? Do you often get messaged?

I have bean toying with the idea of joining some messenger thread as I do like to send and receive naughty pics, but first I want to know more about it. I already have several messenger apps: whatsapp, telegram, discord... that I don't really want to add yet another one.

Kik is mostly used because you don't need a phone number to sign up. You can just make an account (or as many as you want) and they do not link to anything else connected to you. This makes it great for anonymity. However, the app is garbage. Regularly doesn't send messages, prevents sending certain links, sometimes it tells you that you received a message that is nowhere to be found until you restart the app etc.
It just makes it simple to message someone a task, let them do it and prove it with a pic or quick video (longer than 60s regularly doesn't send).

Telegram is technically superior, but because it is linked to your phone number it is difficult to have multiple accounts (if you already use it for non-kink purposes that you do not want linked to your kink life) and the privacy settings have screwed me over before. When I made my account, I very quickly got a message from a family member going "oh you're on telegram now!" because people that have your phone number saved can find you, unless you disable it (hidden in the settings). Now that I have it set up, I prefer it.

My feelings about Kik are somewhat similar to Aurario.
It’s easy enough to use, there’s a good number of kinky people already there. Most importantly, I’m not going to confuse it with work or family&friends messages and group chats.

Messenger threads can be hit or miss. I'm regularly on a few of them. Some times you get a lot of activity and sometimes not. That is part of the thrill though, you never know what's going to happen. Although, I will say when you get nothing it is a bummer.

now kik really is a terrible app in many ways, I regularly think of giving up on it lol but the main advantage (other than not needing a phone number to register, but this is also a disadvantage, as means there are a lot more spam, bots and fake accounts...)
for me is the ability to search and find public groups, no other app I have found has this, you have to be invited by someone you know or search the web for links. If you don't have a lot of kinky friends like me (or have different interests to your friends), then it is a lot harder to find groups on other apps

There is an option for that? Okay i was today years old when i learned this..... thanks.

KIK is probably the most garbage thing and a relic of old, but also some kink standard. I am somewhat happy, that i feel things shift more towards discord and/or tg, one less reason to use kik is a good reason as the app itself is probably utter trash.

Kik is broken. Full of popups and ads, takes over your screen, doesn't deliver messages reliably, frequently doesn't receive them. Its only plus point is not requiring a phone number.

I would not recommend it I guess the one benefit is as was said above: it is separate from any app you might use for none kink stuff. And yes you don't need a phone nr but there are many apps you don't need a phone nr for.

I used it for a while it was always buggy. Sometimes it would lose all your messages. Regularly messages wouldn't be send. Sometimes without telling you it just removed part of your message because it tripped some filter. (In particular it didn't seem to like links with nrs in them) The list of issues I had goes on like I said one word for it buggy. You can not use it on a computer which I think is a major drawback over apps that can work on both.

Than at a certain point I couldn't get it to work anymore at all and since than I just gave up on it. Ofc that means you will miss out on people that swear by it and will only use kik. And some threads are kik exclusive although if you posted a different app username people might be fine with that.

And this I think is the secret most existing people use it, Basically because it is the standard so if you move you miss out, and just like you people don't want multiple apps for the same thing. Even though I seldomly spoke to anyone that wasn't annoyed and grumpy about having to use it in one way or another.
