With a new influx of people some of whom don't know me which is realistically everyone except the mods (I'm a very private person) here is my philosophy and how we got where we are. I want to write this to give some insight into my thoughts and the site as a whole and to just reassure some people on how things work and to also be transparent as I feel like there was little to none with GetDare.
I built this site for Butterfly because of the passion she had for GetDare. I never once asked for a dime to make it or to support it. I did it fully knowing it would cost money and likely never make any back—and I was and am completely okay with that. I remember talking to her post GetDare ban and asking "Why don't I make you your own?"
With the recent influx of new members, we decided to add a donation button. Every dollar goes directly back into running the servers, development, and general upkeep of the site. If we ever broke even, that’d be cool—but honestly, it’s not something I’m worried about. Donations were only enabled recently because of the growth we’ve seen. If costs ever rose significantly as the community continued to grow, we’ve discussed the possibility of a subscription model, but it’s not a major concern right now. In fact, with the support we’ve received so far, we’re probably closer to breaking even than not—so that’s pretty wild, honestly. We did also discuss perhaps just introducing one for people who want to support us on a consistent basis. We shall see. This ties into my philosophy below though.
I hate ads. I absolutely cannot stand them. You will never see ads on this site while I’m one of the owners.
If we ever did introduce a subscription option, it would have to give something back to the community. Yes, it would help keep the site running—but that’s also why we have donation badges now, and higher-tier donors can even get a custom title that I personally make for people. We appreciate the support more than we can properly express.
One of the biggest concerns has always been alienation. We want this community to be inclusive. A broke college student just discovering their kink who can barely afford groceries? Completely welcome. Money should never create a divide or make anyone feel lesser here. That’s why donations only ever result in a warm feeling of helping keep the lights on and maybe a cool little badge or title. I never want donations to unlock features or change anyone’s experience on the site in any functional way.
I handle all of the backend and technical work. Butterfly is, for lack of a better term, the CEO and creative director—alongside our incredible mod team. If you want to think of it this way: Butterfly and I are co-owners. I run the nerd shit; she runs the sparkly front-of-house and is the last word and boss on anything not compliance related.
That’s also why you don’t often see me engaging in activities on the site beyond chatting and tech support. I like the tech stuff she is the well glitter filled Butterfly. One of the bigger things we’ve talked about internally is the “what if” scenario—what happens if one of us steps away, or worse.
Me:
If I decided I was done, I’d pass over all server and account access to Butterfly and help during a transition while she found another tech-minded person to take over. If I got hit by a bus… well, I wouldn’t be helping much—but the access and protocols are already in place. Yes, we actually talked about this.
Butterfly:
If Butterfly ever decided she was done, I honestly don’t know what would happen. I don’t ever see that happening—but if something awful occurred, the site would keep running, and I’d probably try to find another “sparkly” person to help lead it. We haven’t really planned that scenario, and I hope we never have to. I built this dream for her, and without her it wouldn’t be the same.
This is something I take very seriously. I comply with all required regulations, and the site is backed up multiple times a day. If something ever did happen, I’d bring the site back online as quickly as possible while complying with whatever caused the takedown in the first place.
So overall—no need to worry. We’ve got it covered.

Who runs the site

What if the site gets taken down?
