Salt on Balls

Hey there,

by accident (in the Sauna) I experienced, that if you rub your balls with salt, it actually starts burning quite uncomfortable. (Luckily it fades away not immediately but quickly after a shower).

Is this something you experimented already with? Is it safe to cover your genitals with salt, does it only hurt, or could you also damage something down there?

Its my first time experiencing and thinking about this. So I am curious if other people made already some experience or thoughts about...

Ok so generally no this should not cause harm unless applying on broken or damaged skin.
Was it normal salt/ spa himalayan salt? generally anything safe for skin unless strong in chemicals (e.g. normal permanant hair dye etc) should be fine even if it stimulates nerve fibres for tingling sensations.

Damage happens if something not safe for skin is used, or something is used on broken skin. In future make sure to read the details of things before applying to sensitive skin areas if unsure.

skin across the genitals is often more sensitive due to abundant nerve endings we all enjoy the perks of, however, that means they can be easily irritated or triggered to give tingling/ burning sensations too. Skin across the scrotum is slightly thinner than in other areas so a bit more care is sometimes needed.

If you experiment or accidentally expose skin on your genitals to anything that doesn't feel ok or you're worried wasn't safe - look for skin changes indicating damage --> Increased redness, rash, skin breaking, bleeding, oozing (including clear fluids, thicker coloured fluids, or something that just doesnt look or feel right --> Seek medical review with someone qualified to look at the area and assess.

Check things out before using them if doing it deliberately - and if accidental -- try and work out what it is and see it's safety advice for uses/ and possible issues --> clean your skin gently --> sometimes water may heighten the discomfort so oil based things (like coconut oil) can help dilute, clean and soothe the skin.

Many thanks for your advice!

No idea what exactly it was, but I assume it was just salt nothing else. Yes, it was meant to be put onto the skin, it was handed out to the people there to make kind of a salt peeling. (It was just not intended to be put on the balls, I just accidentially sat on my salty towel and then experienced this^^)

Good to know what to watch out for. I tend to be a little more extra carefull with new stuff. Better safe than sorry ;)

I also have no medical background but the one thing I do wonder about salt specifically is moisture, or I guess the lack there of. Salt draws out moisture. So if you are going to apply salt, make sure to moisturize later to rehydrate your skin. Also drink lots of water.
