Friendly Debate: Is cereal a soup?

Is cereal a soup?

  • Yes

  • No

Hell no. It doesn't have vegetables, the base is milk instead of water, and it's a breakfast. You wouldn't have soup in the morning, and you wouldn't have cereal for dinner. Many cereals are also sugary as all hell, in a way no soup should ever be. At best you could classify cereal as a dessert, but soup is an appetizer. You can't switch the two. The only thing they have in common is that they are a liquid with stuff in it. If that's the definition of soup, then a river full of trash is a soup.

I am going to take the opposite stance on this, just for fun.

Arguments for why cereal is a soup:
1. Cereal Soup is defined as a liquid dish containing solid ingredients. That describes cereal too!
2. You eat it with a spoon
Lmao NO, it doesn’t have meat or vegetables in it.
Neither does potato soup?

Not all soup has veggies!
Lots of soups have a cream base.
Who makes these laws about what food can be eaten for what meal? I have eaten soup for breakfast before! And I have certainly eaten cereal for dinner or a snack!
If they can make a dessert pizza, then why not a sweet soup?

What a surprise 😂

1. Yes you’ve nicely confirmed for us that cereal describes cereal perfectly 🙄
2. So yoghurt, cheesecake, porridge and chocolate gateaux must all be soups too then? 😋

Definitions are flexable, so yes cerial is a soup. I mean if we are going to use definitions that rigidly to decide what things are then provide a definition of a chair that includes everything that is a chair and excludes everything that isnt :P it cant be done, things are what we decide they are

(to be clear a devils advocate position ;))

Cereal is absolutely a soup!
It's a primarily liquid dish that you eat with a spoon.

Lets look at rice crispy it's rice in a liquid just like wild rice soup.

Also masterfulsensation says it's not a soup and he doesn't even no what a biscuit is so how the hell would he understand something as complex as soup??
