Sleep is not for Butterflies ... Aka: insomnia is a bitch

Reply to thread
Almost 1 am on the even of a huge work event. Over 400 people have gathered in the city from all over the country. I am here as staff support and the next week is going to be insane! Our programming is schedule from 8 am to 9 pm until Monday.

And I am laying here, exhausted but unable to sleep.

Just like last night, and the night before that and the one before that ...

I've been averaging about 5 hours a night for the past week. Hours of laying in bed, using a coloring app, reading, listening to a podcast, drinking bedtime milk, meditating, breathing exercises, weed gummies ... Nothing seems to work.

There isn't enough caffeine in the world to get me through this week if my body can't get it's shit together and let me sleep.

I do have a lot going on in my life right now. It hasn't been the most peaceful month. So it's understandable that my brain doesn't want to shut down. But I desperately need it to!!!

Send coffee! Send sugar! Or just bring a frying pan to knock me out!

I regularly go to bed at between 10 pm and midnight and am often awake at 6am or on off sleep.

I know this thread is from months ago but I’d thought I’d share my insomnia tips as someone who averaged 4 hrs of sleep a night in 1 hour increments for months.

1. Bed is for sleep ONLY
This one is hard because I like to lay in bed and doom scroll

2. Earplugs
This might just be a me thing but any and every noise would turn my brain on

3. Having a bedtime routine
Doing the same routine starting for me 30-60 minutes before bed helps cue my mind that it’s time to sleep. I generally stop using my phone all together, take a shower, other hygiene stuff, etc.

4. Trazadone
Yes this is a prescription medication for anxiety but it also works as a sleep aid. I’m actually able to sleep the whole night without it now though

Hope some of this helps!
