Hi friends,

I have had a few people express annoyance at the private chat function. This is different from our Direct Messaging system. Private chats happen in the chat room directly. It allows you to message with a member privately. It looks like this:

The options are limited for being able to stop people from messaging you there.

Do users find this useful? or should we turn this off and just allow people to direct message?

Edited to add: There are literally no options for changing the way this works currently, so it is a straight forward a) keep it or b) get rid of it. Unfortunately it is all or nothing.

Having the option to chat privately could be beneficial but if its bothering most members then its better to turn it off

Does the "Ignore" option on user profiles prevent them from sending you private chats? I primarily use the private chat as it's easier for me to hear sound notifications rather than rely solely on the push notifications from DMs.

I find it annoying when people go straight to messaging there rather then stating with a PM. It's not something I like to use but I can see others like it so I would say keep it. I'm willing to tolerate some annoyance for the benefit of others 😇

I've read what you've said about not being able to change or amend it so this is not a suggestion, but I guess my ideal would be for members to be able to opt out of it.
